Welcome, and keep on playing. It gets better and better…
It would probably be hard to get worse. I can’t even make that squawky sound any more. Have fun and welcome.
hi, i am a beginner too!
Hi,

Thanks to this Forum and the people here who have been kind and generous to share their experience.
Thanks also to the moderators who have been accommodating to my inquisitive nature. ![]()
Another beginner. Bought a Guinness Walton after my second trip to Dublin, this last Easter. Grabbed it at the airport (some leftover Euros in my pocket). I found it was easy enough to play simple melodies on it. I played the recorder in school, and it was always just squeak and noise. But when I tried the recorder again as an adult I found that it was now easy (adults have better breath control, and larger fingers.. so, recorders are difficult for children and easy for adults. I don’t play the recorder now, I play stringed instruments mostly). Anyway, the fingering (without a thumb hole) is different for a whistle, but the ancient recorder practice probably helped a little.
I don’t have much practice time for the whistle, but I’m pretty hooked already. Now I have 7 whistles.. I think. The small G was probably a mistake though, there’s barely room for my fingers. I find that I play the Clarke D the most, very easy to play, mellow sound (unless I’m careful some of the others can sound a bit harsh.. I think that’s a beginner issue).
Anyway, it’s for fun, and I’m glad I bought that little Guinness Walton ![]()
