Sport, composed by Peadar O’Riada.
You can (and should) hear the original on his recording “Amidst These Hills”
–edited to add the name of the album and edited again to say that I composed a minor-key variation of this tune one day when I was feeling blue, and since it almost sounded like an inside-out or backwards version of Sport, I called it “Trops.”

Silly, but anyway…
It’s called Sport. IIRC a recent composition, perhaps Michael O’Suilleabhean ?
Thanks for the info. By the way, that recording was at a party just prior to thanksgiving. The piper is “the kid” – Joey Abarta – and all sorts of other folks including his fellow band members. Joey is getting good so fast it is down right scary!!! (Patrick has taught him well) Their band is very nice to go and listen to. If you’re in So. California. I’d recommend catching them somewhere.
O’Riada, that’s it. Thanks Brad.
I’m glad that you suggested to listen to the original recording. It is nice and as I suspected, the tune had “morphed” a bit. …or as some say…it had been “Californicated”.
Listening to O’Riada play it gives you a sense of the original spirit behind the tune; afterwards you’ll remember the sound of his kids lilting and laughing whenever you play it.
That whole album is beautiful; there are a few tracks I have trouble listening to but there’s something very moving about his way with music, it feels so natural and honest. Not a “traditional” recording in the sense that there’s some fairly experimental music on there, but he captures something deep within the music that doesn’t come across on many of the traditional CDs in my collection.
