Help with Sending MP3 Files Via Edirol Recorder

I thought this would be easy. I was trying to set up so I could send a couple of recorded tunes to MT Guru’s site to test and maybe get feedback (with his permission), but I can’t get my computer to recognize the USB hookup. I followed directions and have the required compact flash card in the Edirol R-1; I either get nothing on the computer or that the computer does not recognize device; the Edirol displays connected via USB. I’ve switched out USB chords, flash cards and computer ports with no luck. Any ideas?

If the files are stored as MP3 on the flash card, it’s often easier to take it out and use a flash card reader w/the computer.

and similar products from other manufacturers. Pick one that includes reading your format of card.

Any chance you could just read the SD card directly with an external card reader rather than relying on the Edirol USB?

Thanks guys; I’ll try my wife’s computer and then give one of the suggested devices a try.

If you have any other device which takes an SD card and knows how to talk to your computer (a camera, perhaps) you could try using that as the reader.

I apologize for the stupid question that doesn’t really help re the Edirol, but what MTGuru site are you talking about? Is there a place we can upload MP3’s to?
That said, I’m surprised Edirol doesn’t provide software to download the MP3’s–have you looked at the Roland site? I have a BR-1, and early Roland multi track recorder and it had a CD-ROM with the necessary software. This is from the Roland site, but might be about a different model than you have:
“The R-09HR comes with Cakewalk’s “pyro Audio Creator LE” CD-ROM. This software is perfect for WAV/MP3 audio file editing; to trim cut, or fade audio sections, to burn audio collections to CD, publish a web page with sounds, to publish a blog with audio, to podcast an interview or performance, and so on. With “pyro” the R-09HR package becomes truly a complete recording solution suite from recording to CD-burning.”
Thanks,
Jay

My error - MT Guru corrected me - he is one of several mentors at the “Whistle This” site to which I am trying to send MP3; quite a lovely site that’s all about the music and constructive criticism; and you can get to listen to identified whistles in the clips.

The R-1 is supposed to have the inherent capability, as long as you load the smart card; there is a section in the accompanying booklet. Earlier today I sent an email to the support area of the Roland web site to try to get some input.

I just thought it might be nice to put some clips out there since I run my mouth so much. Thanks again all.

Because of my work, I finally had to spring for a new computer, as the drives on my 6 year old are shot. Hopefully, the 19 in 1 card reader on the new one will accommodate the Edirol compact flash.
