Tony said all I had to do to post was go to MP3.com and follow the instructions. I downloaded tons of new “junk” for my
desktop and I can’t figure out what I am actually supposed to do.
E MAIL ME OFF FORUM, someone, PLEASE?

I’d rather post an answer online so other people can take advantage of the info. You need software that allows you to record along with a microphone. Your sound card comes with that stuff. It usually saves a wav. file.
You need to simply save your wav. file as an mp3 (Mp3 is a smaller, compressed file that won’t take up so much space on our server.) Using a converter software- something that changes file types, you open that software, find and select your already saved wav (or whatever sound file you’ve recorded) and Save As… choose mp3. Hopefully, the mp3 of your sound file will be much smaller than the original wav.
Next, you email me (I’m reluctant to print my address right into this message to avoid spam) and add an attachment of your saved mp3 to the email.
I really don’t mind answering these questions. I hope these instructions were adequate. If not, ask questions. I think other people less brave about posting and asking may appreciate your questions. (I’m sitting at work waiting for an incoming medical advice call.) ![]()

O.K. Tony..here goes.
#1. I recorded at my band-bosses house.
#2. He burned me a c.d. of what we did
#3. I downloaded Media Player as MP3 said
#4. I downloaded Media Jukebox
#5. I named the songs (and now I can’t even find them)
#6. I managed to find on the Tools menu…rip CD.
#7. I did it and who knows where they went.
So, my question right now is…where are
the MP3 files that I copied…it said in
the "Artists Library File, but where on
earth is that? Somewhere in Media Jukebox?
When I do find them, how do I just send you a clip of what I want everyone to hear?
Thanks, Lolly
Well, as for where the tunes are, they’re still on the cd. You still have a cd of them, right? What format are they in on the cd? wav? mp3?
Open your software that converts, locate the file on the cd drive, and save as…mp3. Save to a know location, such as your desktop. Or make a folder of mp3 files.
(I’m on my way home now, so I’ll check in about an hour.) ![]()

I GIVE UP!
Your computer knowledge is just too far above my head.
I downloaded Media Judebox.
I click it open and it plays my c.d., period.
There is no “screen” with drop-downs
involved like when I originally went into
the computer under “my computer”.
I wouldn’t have a clue what Format the cd is in. We recorded it on a normal big 16-track
recording board with a hard-drive. He
then downloaded it onto a cd-r for me to
take home.
This dumb Jukebox program says it copied the c.d. and stored it under Unnamed Artists
and there was NO CHOICE as to where it put it. So I did it twice and can’t locate it.
I don’t know if it now is in WAV or MP3 even.
Maybe someone out there fimiliar with this
“program” can help me with the dumb thing.
I had a few real pretty tunes I wanted
everyone to hear.

Click start, go to search, and run a file search for “unnamed” or maybe for “mp3” if that’s what the ripper saved it as.
Or ask your boss for a second copy, send it to me, and I’ll do it grin
Thanks for the suggestion, Beth, but no luck in finding the WAVs or MP3s.
Our computer is 3 years old, it is probably just not capable of doing this.
No, I can’t ask my boss for another copy,
this was a “secret” between me and my Chiff and Fipple pals! ha ha
Eventually another program will come along
that is more user friendly and I’ll try it again. Its is just so frustrating to waste the whole day and accomplish NOTHING!!!
I should have just been practicing so when
I do ever get to post, I will sound better.
Thanks again to you and Tony for trying!
Lolly
How do you plug a three pin microphone into a computer? Do you preamp it? Then what? I am supposed to know this stuff but don;t.
I have an input device but it only takes a single stereo headphone jack. I have a Quicksilver G4. I have seen cheesy little mics that come with computer (mine didn;t but I can get one).
I can’t believe you are recording clips and snips that way. They sound too good.
What am I missin’ here?
Hi Lolly,
Don’t give up yet…
If you’re using “MusicMatch Jukebox” (assuming that we have the same versions), you can convert a .wav into a .mp3 very simply.
In MusicMatch Jukebox, go to “Options”, then “File”, then “Convert”. This will open a dialog box where you pick the .wav file that you want to convert on the left-hand side (just find the path to your CD player). Then you pick the location where you want the .mp3 to be saved on the right side (saving it to your Desktop is an easy way to be able to find it).
Then choose the “Destination Data Type” in the lower right corner of the dialog box (I think that it’s probably “MP3 CBR” that you’ll want).
Feel free to give me a call for some help, if any of this isn’t clear enough…
Good Luck,
Thom
Yes, Thom I did give up.
I had dowloaded Media Jukebox and it kept talking about a “library” and my computer
doesn’t have one.
So I deleted the program and downloaded
Sony Jukebox which came with my new mini-disk.
It said it couldn’t be installed because
something was wrong in the “library”.
So, evidentally I DON’T have this library
that is needed!
I guess a new computer will have to be found before I can do anything like this.
Sorry to take up everyone’s time.
Lolly
Hi Lolly,
I’d suggest re-installing MusicMatch Jukebox. Just ignore the “Library” stuff for now. The Library isn’t something that you’d “have” on your computer to start with - you build the Library from music that’s on your computer (but you don’t need to do that at all, if you don’t want to).
I don’t use the Library feature myself at all. Anytime I use Jukebox to listen to music, I go to “Options”, then “File”, then “Open” and choose the location of the music on my computer (or CD) from there.

Go to your local electronics and/or music store, and get a 3-pin to 1/8th inch adapter, do not preamp, plug directly into the ‘microphone’ hole on your sound card,
-OR-
get cable-to-1/8th inch jack ‘Y’ adapter, plug 3-pin mic into preamping equipment, output cables into adapter, adapter into ‘line in’ on sound card.
In other words, if it’s pre-amped, it’s ‘line’, if it’s straight mic, it’s ‘mic’.
Software should be capable of post-editing for level adjustments.

Thanks. It seemed too direct from mic to box without intervention or boosting or something. I will try it.
