Hey folks,
Recently some friends and I have started playing together. We are really excited about the sound that we have and are considering starting a group. We have started throwing ideas around for a name, but havne’t decided on one yet. (we have our set..just no name) We play a combination of smallpipes, Ullieann, whistles, guitar, Bodhran mainly and play fairly trad. Anybody want to throw in suggestions I would appreciate it.
The group I play with is also trying to come up with a name. We’ve been tossing ideas about but none have come up to which everyone says, “Yah!”. But one I liked was “Half step away”. We were talking about improvisation and trying to come up with little counter melodies on the fly. We bemoaned that sometimes you hit the wrong note. But sage advise given to one of our members is to just slide up or down a half step quickly because you’re always just a half step away from some harmony note. We laughed and then thought, “Hey…” But it’s never gone further than that…
I think band names just sort of happen. Once you start playing together, a funny event may trigger something.
The first time my local group played at a dance, the leader brought us to a close before the dance had finished, and the dancers obediently stopped part way through. We immediately became " Eight Bars Short".

Example: Pikey Excursion, Celtic Emersion, Kiltie Pronation, Hogmanay Foundation.
This will yield 100 choices. No, make that 99, because I’m getting partial to Arran Reflux, and I want to save that one for myself.

Actually, they don’t call themselves a band: they’re a “session unit”. Come to think of it, Session Unit wouldn’t be a bad name!
There was an Afghan comedian called “na shinas” (sp?) which meant “no name” when he died he had a huge vault door placed in front of his grave with only two of the three vault walls in place leaving the back open.
We’ve got a pub here called Piper Down, so y’d never be able to play here! 
I’ve never had to come up with an ITM name before, tho could be interesting, considering the aforementioned combo lists!
I’ve never actually been involved in a serious ITM band, just a lot of rock bands, so my previous band names would never even fit an ITM band; Some of my bands have been “Mindsprain” (old school punk), “Malevolence” (Heavy Metal), “Flickering Candle” (Celtic influenced Goth Metal), and my current bands “Plan 9” (Misfits cover band) and “Rubicon” (Journey cover band).
“Band to be Named Later”
The recently departed general manager of the red sox calls his charitable foundation the “Foundation to be Named Later” after the baseball trade concept of a player to be named later.
Actually, “Players to be Named Later” ain’t bad for a band.

I have always thought that Stout Breakfast would make a great band name… I still might use it someday, unless you beat me to it.
