HELP: "What tweak?" thread?

I’ve got a High D copper whistle without any back pressure with
wonderfully complex tones and a sonorous bell note, but screeching high octave notes. I can do something to flatten the screeching by sliding the tuner, careful breathing, and some halfholing, but it’s still not good. Can anyone direct me to the tweaks thread that might help me? I’m sure there is one for this particular problem, but I can’t find it.

Thank you.

Keith.

I never started one. It’s on my list.

Hi Keith, I don’t know about a general thread. But try the Susato O-ring tweak. Find an O-ring that fits snugly around your whistle, and slide it just below the fipple window. It tends to correct exactly what you describe, taming the upper octave, decreasing volume slightly, and increasing backpressure.

If you don’t have an O-ring handy, try wrapping a rubber band several times on top of itself in the same position. Not as effective, but OK to find out if the tweak might have the desired effect.

MTGuru: Thanks for your helpful input, as ever. There seem to be two postings on this subject (see above). I replied to the earlier one that Tommy replied to and left a message for you, too.

Thanks again.

Keith.
