Tweaking?

I currently own three whistles, a Feadog C, Feadog D, and a Asarkar Low D.

The Low D is sounding breathier every time I play it (probably just needs cleaning), however, both the Feadog’s sound very tinny and harsh. After listening to various youtube video’s with identical whistles, I wonder about this tweaking thing.

I’m pretty inept when it comes to mechanical things, but considering the whistles are only $10 each, I’d be willing to destroy a few learning the trade.

Anyone have any suggestions? The D is Nickel and the C is Brass. Both have plastic heads.
