The search function and I just do not get along. I saw a thread on it… I thought…! Help? ![]()
Think I remember what you’re talking about. But, I couldn’t find the thread either.
The only reason I know such a thread exists is because I actually tried the tweak on my clarke original.
Maybe we can start a new one.
Know any good tweaks? I really want to give the whistle a little backpressure. It has such awesome tone, and I either lucked out, or Clarke is just awesome, because every note it pitch perfect. (Sad to say this isn’t true of every whistle I own.
)
But its so quiet, and takes about 35% more air than even my fife! Its -hard- to play an aire on it, even if I speed things along. ![]()
yes. mash the windway

In that thread is a discussion of the Clarke Tweak as well as another link to another similar thread.
Yep, that’s the thread I was looking for. It helped reduce the air requirements.
I am have been messing with one of my two clarke’s. Got it mashed a bit but I may have to reset it and try again heh
I played a Clarke original for six months before my first custom whistle. To me the Clarke is our heritage and tradition and I always want one around. It does take a lot of air though, and in the past I didn’t know about tweaks.
I have successfully tweaked two Clarkes now, and have found that you don’t have to push the ENTIRE top of the windway down above the wooden fipple–just the END that is part of the window (the part just above the wooden block that is FARTHEST from your mouth). This does wonders for the tone, and keeps the sides from spreading away from the fipple. Also, it compresses the air from the wider windway at your lips and concentrates it right at the fipple blade. PERFECT!!
So far I think I have just about managed to ruin one of my clarkes. Which is why I didn;t try this with only one but bought another
I am hoping I can salvage it. I love the sound of these whistles

If you pushed the windway down wrong, just take a screwdrive and pry it back up! You haven’t lost unless the tin cracks!
I did the same thing some time back
Bummer isn’t it?
Yep I still have hopes I can fix it
Luckily they are inexpensive and the store I got both mine from has a case of them heh
