OK, I know this is a weird one…
I’m picking up a few things for myself for my birthday, and wanted to get a CD. Problem is, I’m so new to ITM that I don’t really know where to start.
Right at this moment I have a shopping cart going at Amazon, and wanted to throw a CD in there while the shipping is free.
I know I like Planxty and The Bothy Band. What I like about them is that what I’ve heard seems to be a nice mix of songs w/lyrics and traditional tunes (reels/jigs).
I was going to get a Planxty CD, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend $15-$18 for eight tunes. The Bothy Band is out of the question because Amazon’s prices are outrageous for them.
I don’t want a CD that seems like an endless stream of reels and jigs. Suggestions? Favorite Planxty CD?
Any help?
I was hoping to checkout this afternoon.
Thanks,
Jason
I got 4 albums of unprotected MP3s of Planxty from, I believe, Emusic.com. Their intro price includes x amount of freebies. I think I also got Mary Bergin’s albums from there.
All in all, my arrangement with them worked out very well in adding to my Celtic collection.
Of the 4, I have a hard time finding a favorite.
I did the eMusic thing as well, and HIGHLY suggest it.
You might also look at used cd’s from amazon. I’ve always had good luck and saved a bundle.
Favorite Planxty cd (hands down) Cold Blow and the Rainy Night.
Favorite Bothy Band: Bothy Band Live
Other favorite cd: Laurence Nugent: The Windy Gap (whistle and flute)
Recent acquisition that blew me away: John Williams: Steam

I’ve gotten quite a few recordings from eMusic. The selection of ITM classics is surprisingly good and the prices are great.
