So I am going to be returning some stuff tommorow, and I think that I am going to get some new Irish CD’s. Just wondering what poeple’s current favorite albums are that I should tyr to pick up.
lunasa, michael mcgoldrick, flook.
Kitty Lie Over- Mick O’Brien and Caoimhin O’ Raghallaigh
Anything by Lunasa
The Bothy Band live is a must have…the best trad band of all time.Nobody has ever brought out the power and passion of ITM like the Bothys.
There are two Dolores Keane best ofs floating about and are well worth having, both contain a nice mix of trad and contemporary songs. Her version of “Heart like a wheel” is worth the price of the album on its own.
There are several complimations featuring Luke Kelly out there as well.Nobody can do Ewan McColl songs like the late great Luke, probably the most undervalued singer in folk music.

What you are going to find at your local stores is different than what you would find/order online. Not sure you’d find the likes of Kitty Lie Over…
I have bought: Lunasa, Solas, Danu, Dervish, Altan, Chieftans, and got lucky and once found a Matt Malloy and also a Kevin Crawford CD at Music Wherehouse.
I enjoy all those CDs quite a bit, Lunasa probably the most (and Kinnity Sessions gets most playtime). At some places, like at Barnes and Noble, and at Borders, you can listen to snippets of the CD’s on headphones before you buy.
Have fun!
Not only is it worth buying for the music, but the Bothy Band’s “Old Hag You Have Killed Me” has got to the the best album title ever conceived.
It’s one of my favorite tune titles ever concieved.
