Hello to everybody…
I´am new here, and just wanted to sent a big salute!!! to all users if this great message board…
I am writing from Denmark, where tin whistlers are quite rare.
So it has been an absolute joy, to find this board, and have a change to get
some of all the questions that may pop up, while trying to learn the whistle answered.
Cheers to ALL… or “skål” as we say in Denmark. ![]()
Hello and welcome!! I’m new here myself and now I’m not the newest newbie:) I come from a quiet part of central Ohio, USA where whistlers are very rare too. Good thing is that I’m not too far from Dublin Ohio where they have a nice Irish festival, from what I hear, that I have yet to attend (I’m still new to this area as well). Again, welcome.
Welcome Leo. ![]()
Doc
Greetings!
I just started myself a little over a month ago - it’s ALOT of fun - hope you enjoy it too! (occassionally I’ll hear my family members humming Planxty Irwin or Star of the County Down…)
I learned much from Ryan Dunn’s tutorials/lessons on You Tube (and other players as well). (just search for tin whistle)…
There is also a Irish and Celtic Music Podcast that I’ve been enjoying as well.
I picked up the whistle after attending a renaissance faire (Near St. Louis Mo.) (I didn’t see any whistlers there)… thinking that I might be able to be ‘a character’ next year… little did I know how much I’d really enjoy it
Planning on attending my 1st Irish Festival (Erin Feis) in Peoria Illinois in just a few more weeks.
Enjoy your whistle(s)!
Hello TravM63…
I´ll check out You Tube…Nice tip!!! Thanks
I have used the Wandering Whistlers homepage… to help me get started,
and the Clarke Tin whistle tutorbook. Just bought Mel Bay´s Irish tin whistle book…but I think I´ll save that one for later (need more practice) ![]()
Hej Leo, välkommen till Chiff & Fipple!
'nuff said in the nordic languages for now…
You should also check out http://www.thesession.org/ where you’ll find a huge stash of traditional Irish music in ABC format as well in sheet music. I’ve used the ABC’s together with ABC explorer http://abc.stalikez.info/abcex.php which will allow you to play the ABC files on your computer in just about any speed as well as printing the music with whistle tablature.
I’ve found this very helpful when learning new tunes.
Cheers,
Anders

Welcome. What’s up with the name Leopold? Are you planning on destroying the earth any time soon? Please let me know, I’ll go on a shopping binge first.
Its my dogs name… well it´s only Leopold, not the 666 part. He is very big, but gentle and kind. And because my girlfriends brother is quite scared of him, I thought it would be fun to call myself Leopold666 (devil dog
) At least thats how he sees him… like one big devil dog…
I often play against him on PSN, and I use the same name on my profile… then he knows the big dog is after him
