Hello, and can I ask something :P

Hello or is it “Dia duit”

I’m new to the site. I friend recommended you. I am currently just getting into my heritage and it’s music and I my lovely wife has really enjoyed it for many years. I look forward chatting with you.

But first I have a request, I would like to make a CD of Celtic romatic or love songs for my love. But as said before I don’t the knowledge to do it yet. She is going through a rough time right now and this might cheer her up. I would love to surprise her.

If you can help by suggesting some songs and where to get them it would be great and I’ll be in your debt from the start.

Music stores usually sell this stuff.

Glauber,

Who would have guessed that you have such a romantic aspect to your nature.

Slan,
D.

Not the kind of answer I was looking for…but thanx anyways.
Actually, I was hoping for some sond titles

Perhaps people are overwhelmed by the enormity of your request. There are literally thousands of tunes that fit your description. The body of Irish traditional music is huge. Perhaps you would do better to try some of the CD collections that are already offered by several of the larger ITM music publishers, things like Celtic Moods, Celtic Twilights, Celtic Romance, etc.

I would suggest you look into the recordings of Christy Moore, Andy Stewart, Delores Keane…to name a few. Like djm said, there are thousands of tunes/songs out there that would fit what you seem to be looking for.

Great, that gives me someplace to start from. Anyone got any favorates?

“A Song for Ireland” is a favourite of mine, I once played it for a friend’s wedding as it was her mother’s favourite song.

Mary Black is one of the great contemporary Irish singers, so her version on the CD in the second link would be a good one. I also recommend the Rankin Family. Also look for a CD collection called “Bringing it all Back Home”, lots of great songs and tunes on there, some traditional and some modern.

Everyone here is right, really the area is so vast, and taste so personal, it’s hard to recommend stuff. If you look for Celtic CDs in your local music store, they should have the big names and some collections that you could get and compile your CD from the tracks you like. Many CDs will also feature songs in Irish, if your wife’s tastes run to that.

I have no idea why I didn’t mention them earlier, but Silly Wizard is a mighty band. Their singer/banjo player/songwriter, Andy M. Stewart has loads of great songs that might just be what you are looking for. Good luck.
