Anyone looking forward to some haggis?
A man’s a man for a’ that…
When is it? I have a brother named Robert Burns but he’s neither a poet nor Scottish.
Aye - I have a brace o’ Haggii hangin’ oot in the tool shed waitin’ tae be
plucked for supper next week.
Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face,
Great chieftain o’ the pudding-race!
Aboon them a’ yet tak your place,
Painch, tripe, or thairm:
Weel are ye wordy o’a grace
As lang’s my arm.
Despite the despicable rumours spread about the contents of Haggis
the stuff is actually very tasty.

Heading to Miles City, Montana this weekend for their Burns evening. 750 people scheduled this year. This is the 98th consecutive year in Miles City. Great people, great fun.
Montana, where in Montana you located? I live in Billings, but am working out of Helena.
Happy Burn’s nicht to everybody. ![]()
I was born in Billings but now live in Missoula.
Wow, that’s quite a commute. I hope the work is just temporary especially this time o’ year.
I didn’t realize there was such a large celebration in Miles City. I thought the only big thing there was the Round-up.
- THE WOUNDED HAGGIS
INHUMAN man! curse on thy barb’rous art,
And blasted be thy murder-aiming eye;
May never pity soothe thee with a sigh,
Nor ever pleasure glad thy cruel heart!
Go live, poor wand’rer of the wood and field! 5
The bitter little that of life remains:
No more the thickening brakes and verdant plains
To thee a home, or food, or pastime yield.
Seek, mangled wretch, some place of wonted rest,
No more of rest, but now thy dying bed! 10
The sheltering rushes whistling o’er thy head,
The cold earth with thy bloody bosom prest.
Perhaps a mother’s anguish adds its woe;
The playful pair crowd fondly by thy side;
Ah! helpless nurslings, who will now provide 15
That life a mother only can bestow!
Oft as by winding Nith I, musing, wait
The sober eve, or hail the cheerful dawn,
I’ll miss thee sporting o’er the dewy lawn,
And curse the ruffian’s aim, and mourn thy hapless fate. 20
I’ve got to play with the pipe band Friday night for our local Burns night.
I say"I’ve got to play" because I’ve got the flu and have to work that day and the day after, so it’s more of a chore this year than pleasure,unfortunately.
One of the other lodges was sponsoring a big celebration for Burns Night over at the Masonic building, but I was unable to attend.
well, nobody’s perfect!

Montana,
You must mean the Miles City Bucking Horse Sale in the spring. That is a blast also. My wife and I take our business down to both. I have talked to people from all over the world that go to Bucking Horse weekend. Australia, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Portugal. it is quite the melting pot of people. I think the draw for a lot of people is the close ties to the old west.
“The cowboy way of life” Either way, the folks in Miles City are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet.
Burns night this year is sold out already, but you should try to make it next year. Program usually lasts 4 of 5 hours. Piping, dancing, singing and a meal. All for about $12.00. Then there is a dance afterwards. Great fun.
The trio I’m in, “Three in the Bush,” played at a local Burns Night supper last night. We had the piping-in of the haggis then its ceremonial stabbing and a tribute to Burns. The landlord gave us free 3-course supper, the main course of which consisted of the traditional haggis, tatties and neeps, we had free beer and we got paid!
We have a few Scottish tunes among the plethora of Irish and we just about managed to make 'em eke out!
Steve
Ummmm. Tatties and neeps.
Apparently the Scots are trying to get rid of Haggis
