Hammy Hamilton keyless flute for sale

I am looking for a buyer for a Hammy Hamilton keyless flute, made in the early 1980s. It had a crack at one time in the head joint, and that cracked was fixed recently by Jon Cornia in Los Angeles, plus he refurbished the flute and rebuilt the adjusting slide. It plays very well. A clip and photo are attached. $550. Contact dongest@msn.com or by phone 520-981-1475.

Don Gest has been involved in promoting Irish music in Phoenix and Tucson (AZ) for almost 30 years. He’s for real.

I’ve played Don’s Hammy, and it’s an oldie but goodie. He asked me to record a few clips, so here goes:

another hammy clip

one more hammy clip

Standard disclaimers apply:

  1. not my flute and I get nothing for helping Don
  2. not my flute and I’m not used to it
  3. the flute is a better flute than I am a player
  4. I wasn’t warmed up
  5. I wasn’t feeling good
  6. I haven’t practiced lately
  7. the creepy picture of Abe Vigoda made me uncomfortable
  8. a stronger player could get a hard D out of this flute that would make a jumbo sized bottle of Viagra green with envy

How was Hammy’s work 25 years ago compaired to today? Seems like a real steal for a refurbished blackwood flute from such a reputed maker.

550 USD is only 3318 Swedish crowns. Very cheap for such a good sounding flute from a reputable flute maker. The flute is from the early 1980´s and has been renovated and sounds fine judging by the sound clips. Grab it while you can.

Nice to hear from you again mate. I’ll keep the rest of the conversation in English so we don’t anger our english speaking friends.
I know, it seems a fine deal to say the least. If I’m in the market for anything now though it’s a keyed instrument. But we’ll see, I imagine this will sell very soon, but if it hasn’t in a week or so I might grab it anyway and sell my Seery if I like this one better.

I have it under good authority that it has been sold already, with a wait list too, in case it doesn’t work out! Yes, a good deal!

PS I had an older Hammy once, and the workmanship was fine, compared to today’s flutes by Hammy. It sounded great, and had a smaller embouchure hole than the newer ones, so it might have been a little harder to play (for me anyway it was), but like any flutemaker that is worth anything, over time the design may get tweaked some as it goes along-not necessarily better or worse, just different.

Yes, speaking on behalf of (relatively internetless Don), the flute has sold but there was a stack of folks who made inquiries as well.

Hammy is an incredible craftsman, if you ask me. I used to have a Hammy that was just freaking amazing. Sometimes I thought I was playing a saxophone. Wish I’d never let it go. But the flute in question is a nice player and a nice looker. If I’d had the money I’d have had a go at it myself but I’m about maxed on flutes right now.

great sounding flute! I have an F from Ham and will have 2 in cocus ( 6 keys) next month. this just wet my appetite!
