I’m selling my keyless Hammy Hamilton flute. I got a good 6 years of use out of it and have moved on to a keyed flute. The Hammy is a great flute. I’m sad that nobody’s been playing it since I got my new one!
This flute’s history and health report:
I bought this flute new, direct from Hammy, in 2000.
There was a problem with the tuning slide getting loose a few years ago but that was professionally repaired (pulled out and re-glued) here in Minnesota and the man who repaired it (John Penniston) talked the whole thing through with Hammy so everything was done the way Hammy would have done it.
About three years ago, a small crack opened up just below the tuning slide (a metal lined part of the flute - see photo). This didn’t effect the way it played. About a year ago, another very fine crack opened up on the other side of the tuning slide (also over a metal-lined portion). This also didn’t have much effect on the way the flute played. I was just in Ireland this February and I stopped by Hammy’s shop in Coolea and he stitched the two racks and replaced the cork on the joints. He also re-turned the headjoint. Since this make-over the flute plays better than it has since the day I got it. It’s been well oiled and humidified this winter (which was a rough one in Minnesota) so it’s really ready to go for whoever might want it.

Here I’ve marked the two repaired cracks. They’re much harder to see than the very visible grain lines on the head joint. The grain lines are not to be confused with cracks! They’ve been there since I got it.
This flute really is playing better than ever right now. If you like Hammy’s flutes for their big powerful tone you’ll like this flute.
