I’ve been working on learning this Reel. Does anyone know how it got the name? I know there is a movie by this name

It’s because of the 7/8-feel in the B part, isn’t it?
(I guess I could just go look, but am lazy today)
Serendipity! We actually tried to wheel that out not long ago after years of avoidance (never could explain the B part to the rhythm guys), but it was, alas, still DOA. ![]()
If you haven’t heard Nomos’s version of it, it’s worth tracking down; in fact, the whole set is a ripsnorter.
Have fun with it!
I think the easiest way to analyze the C part is as slightly crooked with just one short bar of 6(3), and the rest perfectly normal in 8(4). Either
|egdB A2eg|dBGA (3Bcd|egdB Aa2f|gedg eA~A2| or
|egdB A2|egdB GA (3Bcd|egdB A2f|gedg eA~A2|
I tend to hear it the first way, with the eg as pick-ups and the beginnings of each bar alternating between A tonality and G tonality. So just count 3 for the second bar, and normal 4 for the rest, and voilà.
Actually, since it’s in cut time, it’s more like
1 & 2 &|1 2 3|1 & 2 &|1 & 2 &|
How about telling the rhythm guys to sit on their hands for a couple of minutes? Just a thought. Cheers,
Rob
Or just have them shout out “Yip Kay Yay!” in unison for the short bar. In keeping with the Wild West motif. ![]()
You might pop a few shots in the air with yur sixgun.
Worked work Ricky Ricardo once.
