Interesting, when the film showed at the Santa Barbara Film Festival last year, it was titled “The Boys from County Clare”. I see they changed the title - maybe 'cuz they wanted to hype the Corr casting a tad more.
I saw the film at the Seattle International film festival in June…it’s a great film! And, yes, Andrea does a splendid job…the role fits her perfectly and her love interest in the film is actually her real life boyfriend (he’s pretty cute!!).
The movie is hilarious and heartwarming. Bernard Hill and Colm Meaney do a great job which is no suprise.
They changed the title because Andrea does have a significant role in the film. It sort of reminds me of Romeo and Juliet, 'cept it’s not a tragedy.
Well, that’s all fine and good, but did anyone notice that Andrea is playing a FIDDLE PLAYER?! Bah! At least she falls in love with a flute player which is as it should be.
The movie was well done. The music is a bit muted for my tastes.
A bunch of standard jokes got into the film. To a US hippie bodhran player ‘…and I bet you know all of the tunes, too.’ Pipers are always messing with reeds and an Irish piper was shown with his set at an angle that one almost never sits with in an effort to get his reed and set going. The idea of a missionary returning with a winning ceili band is beyond wild and seems like a bar discussion fantasy. In the strange world of film reality shifting, it was mostly filmed on the Isle of Man and parts in Antrim.
A reviewer in the local rag, the Willamette Week, wrote that it was “like watching a feature-length Irish Spring commercial” and that it should be “avoided at all costs.”
I’ve never been much of a Corrs fan, but wow, that sounds pretty harsh. Maybe I’ll just wait for it to come out on video…Or maybe I’ll go watch “Downfall.” That looks like a peachy, feel-good flick…
So are all of us pipers going to take over the ITM forum or what? Perhaps we should start writing in code so that we don’t let Dale know what we’re up to.
