Is there a listing in the Guiness Book of World Records for the largest number of people playing a tinwhistle at the same time? They have a lot of records for people doing all sorts of things simultaneously eg juggling.
If not, why not??
Could this possibly be done remotely-- getting as many players as possible to play the same tune at the same, pre-agreed upon time?
Any thoughts?
How would they verify it?
Easy. You count the number of cats zooming in the opposite direction, take the square root (round to the nearest whole number) and multiply by the number of High Bs in the tune. The answer is the number of whistlers.
They had a “South Park” episode like that, except it was recorders. They called it the Million Man Recorder March (or some such)
But we all know that tinwhistles are better than recorders & it would turn out better. Maybe all the tinwhistlers of the world should converge on national capitols…
Couldn’t you just hear Tom Brokaw say “Hundreds of people playing tinwhistles converged on Westminster Abbey, the White House etc etc in protest of nothing in particular…”
Hmm, nice job Martin. I always divided the number of cats by pi before using the square root, and that answer always came out to the inverse number of rcrd*r players- thanks for pointing out my error.

sounds like a good plan but how do you keep track after the first few cases?
Well, not many folks set records, but after they make a good start, they stop caring about the record. I remember Paul Harvey saying that he had a remedy for a sore throat. It involved large amounts of brandy. At the end he said “It doesn’t really get rid of the pain, but after taking this remedy, you don’t care any more.”
Actually, I think they do that one… At least one pub that I know of ( around the corner from my office) has a thing each year at a set date and time where they invite as many people as possible to come in and have a pint of Guiness. I get the impression that this is done at the same date and time in many locations, and the number gets reported to Guiness.
