Hi I’m new here. I have a Grintner low D for sale. I’m allergic and need the money. Not sure of the value. Any offers. It’s in mint condition!
A Grinter low D is something of a rarity.
I have never seen anything from Michael’s workshop that is less than excellent in craftmanship and performance. This whistle will be well worth having.
A few questions:
What is it made of?
When was it completed?
Do you have any pics?
Mitch is absolutely right, if the cocobolo Grinter low f and high d I owned are any indication. They were as close to perfection in execution as anything I have seen. The pitch was as good as any whistle I’ve owned, and the walls of the bodies were remarkably thin as a testament to fine craftsmanship.
I prefer a less “chiffy” sound personally and that is the only reason I sold them and kept others. Looking back, I wish I had kept them, as the were indeed exceptional instruments.
I’d like to know more details, too.
Reg
Hi, The whistle is made of rosewood. It was completed 5 years ago, give or take. I bought the low F then immediately ordered the low D. I’m keeping the F. I have a Copeland low D and am sacrificing the Grintner. I am allergic to the rosewood but I put a small balloon over the mouthpiece. I don’t play the F much as it is so I put up with the cracked lips and fingers when it comes up. I read Dales postings warning about a new account. I assure that it is not me! I am not very computer savy thus I do not know how to send a picture. I am using the computer at my Mother’s house. I will try to get help posting a picture. When I bougth the whistle I was aware that Michael was just starting to make the low D. I love it ! It plays beautifully! My friend just moved back home to NFLD. He just started making whistles and posts some videos on you tube. I will ask him to help me post a video of me playing the Grintner low D. Hope this helps. Regards, Whistle 1000!

…
Back to the thread:
as Jemtheflute has pointed out, there is no such thing as a “Grintner”.
Regarding the work of THE Michael Grinter, I might add that when Paddy keenan was last in my neck of the woods, he had with him a new Grinter low F on account of since someone sat on his old Grinter F. Michael was good enough to provide a new F whistle equally as good as the one it replaced - magnificent work!
A pic to help the buyer validate the make would enormously help the vendor with his case. I once bought a “Bolex” wristwatch … made me smile, but didn’t keep time very well ![]()
Hello Folks,
I just got home to newfoundland…I will head over to whistle1000’s for a visit today and take some pictures…Maybe post a video aswell,
Greg
P.S
I don’t think he will sell it any how
Hi, Here are the pictures finally. I had Mr. Lochlan whistles help me post. We will be working on a soundbyte momentarily. To be honest, I was having sellers remorse.I played it yesterday and It makes me cough etc. Like I said I am allergic so I am willing to make the sacrifice. I have my Copeland low D and I love it. I don’t play the GrintER anyway. Maybe 10 hours since I’ve owned it. That being said, I am looking to get $500 Canadian for it. I understand the concern about buying and selling on this site. Mr. Lochlan whistles has offered to be the middleman to put people at ease. Like me he is a standup Newfoundlander so there is absolutely no concern. Gregg sells his whistles on this site and they are also awesome! Also sorry about the spelling. God you guys are hard on a guy just for incorrect spelling! I hope tht this helps for now
Sinserest regards, Whistle1000

Wouldn’t that be “Sincerest” regards?
Just giving you a hard time buddy. I know, I am a jerk. ![]()
Looks gorgeous. Wish my finances could manage it.
I saw both Joanie Madden and Kevin Crawford play a Grinter;they both talked highly about them, and those whistles were amazing.
So long as it’s still playing OK, $500 seems like a fabulous bargain in anyone’s currency. When you consider how much people pay for his flutes and recorders, it’s a miracle that he made any whistles at all.
pm sent - (unfortunately no reply)
Do you have any photos with more of a closeup view of the head of the instrument? It looks beautiful.
dude , i have offered you the asking price for this whistle some week ago. Any chance of a reply?
Ditto.
Hello everybody. As you can see, I’m back online. To all of you who expressed an interest the whistle that I had for sale, I am truly truly sorry that I got you interest piqued and never followed through. I did make some videos so you guys could hear the whistle. But after playing the heck out of it the day that I made the videos, I could not ,for the life of me , part with it! It is an awesome whistle! Although I am allergic to the rosewood, I will try to sell blood or a kidney if I am need of extra cash. One day, I hope to hear my young son playing it. Again my deepest apologies but I don’t think that anyone would begrudge me my decision.
All the best, Whistle1000
