I was a bit bored and wandered over to clips and snips and found a great recording of a church organ and a whistle. “Give me your hand” and “chanter’s song”. I would never have guessed an organ and a whistle would sound so incredible together. I guess its not that surprising since a whistle is essentially a single tubed organ. But it sounds great and makes me think, what if there was an orchestra of just whistle players (different keys, playing different parts, obviously all in tune), that would seem incredible!
What is really interesting with The Chanter’s Song recording that you mentioned is the blend. The whistle and organ together sound like one instrument. If I hadn’t known ahead of time that it was pipe organ AND whistle, I would have assumed it was just pipe organ. Very nice and unique recording.
There was a thread recently about a CD made available where a whistle is accompanied by a full symphony orchestra. We now wake up every morning to that beutiful sound. Glorius.
