That’s a new head on your Silberton recorder body, isn’t it?
Cool! Great sound, very woody and smooth. Is the headjoint articulated? It looks like it moves a little as you play it.
Do you have a recording with the “normal” head?
I think it still sounds pretty recorder-y but I have
naught to compare it to, so I may be full of it.
I don’t (too breathy!)… but then I’ve got a Silberton alto, don’t think that does either (IMHO more like a fine wood flute) and don’t know how I’d categorise this new ‘hybrid’ when the fingering’s not going to produce whistle style regardless of the sound.
“…fingering’s not going to give whistle style”…do you mean no cuts, rolls, crans etc. possible on a recorder? On Carlos Nunez’s recorder playing I believe I’m hearing something akin to whistling…
I play other end-blown flutes and just added whistle. Looking at recorder playing for more notes. A little grail of mine is the sound of a whistle (chiff) with chromaticism. Sean Bergin plays a Chieftain low D on Herzog’s film, Cave of Forgotten Dreams sound track. Emailed him and he says he half holes a lot. His playing on the cut, Gaga inspired me to look into the whistle. Not very Irish but still beautiful and expressive. And have since come to know about the world of Irish tin whistle playing not known to me before.
Anyone else share a little chromatic whistle dream?
