actually I’m rather proud to announce, that not only „Morris Open“ ( www.morris-open.de ) and “Trutz Nachtigall” ( www.trutz-nachtigall.de ) but now “Planxties & Airs” too have a website online: www.planxties-airs.de . Sorry, this one is in German only for now, but if you’re interested in the combination of whistle and church organ playing together, the soundfiles found on “Hörproben” might be interesting anyway. Enjoy listening!
It does sound as if was recorded in situ, so to speak.
The third track from the site is getting repeated plays here today. For some strange reason the liturgical feel to it reminded me an awful lot of the Gaeltacht Medley from Alan Stivells "Renaissance of the Celtic Harp"which I happened to be listening to this very morning before venturing on to the Chiff Board.
Two very different pieces of music but there is something common to both in the feeling of otherworldness.
Stivells album is on Napster,if you would like a listen.
What a pleasant blending of musical instruments. Who would have thought the whistle could sound so nicely with organ? You have brought our instument to a new height surely.
Ah…that Hedgehog’s Lament…wonderful…makes me want a good low whistle even more now.
About pipe organs and whistles. It’s cool to think that Michael Copeland got a lot of inspiration from all his studies on the acoustics of pipe organs and such. Its all in The Chiff and Fipple Interview
