Great CD finds: Rabharta & Kej

I picked these up yesterday and were great finds, not to mention great value (5 or more for $5 each at Dusty Strings).

Rabharta features Marcus & P.J. Hernon performing in their home town of Feenish. Great tunes, great playing, and some great singing too from Don Stiffe. Marcus’ flute playing is a breath of fresh air.

Kej is a project of Breton flautist, Jean-Luc Thomas. If Coltrane played wooden flute and did a Breton album, Kej would be pretty close. There’s a lot of experimental/improvisational playing as well as some sparkling nuggets of Breton dance tunes played masterfully on the flute. Add in traditional kant by Breton chanteuse, Annie Ebrel, and this album is a piece of art.

So if you see these discs, grab 'em (especially if they are as cheap as I found 'em).

Cheers,
Aaron

There’s a new Kej CD out too, very different from the first, with a mostly African theme.

the Kej cd is great – your description of it is pretty accurate. the cover art is very cool also.

i’d love to hear the new one, too.

sounds like you got a great deal, i ordered mine from stalig so i had to pay in euros :frowning: .

Let me precise about the stalig please, if you pay by visa, you may pay in the currency as you want. (it may not be clear, sorry)
