I’m culling my collection a bit, so here are some flute-related CDs that deserve more play than they’re getting.
–Celtic Winds: Irish Music in America; McComiskey, Coen, Rafferty, Conway, DeMarco, etc.
–The Irish Music Anthology: 40 Classic Songs, Jigs and Reels; double CD of classic recordings from the '20s to the '50s (Coleman, Reevy, Morrison, McKenna, Touhey, etc.)
–From Galway to Dublin: Early Recordings of Irish Traditional Music; similar to the double disc above (but almost no overlapping titles)
–Le Grand Fest Noz; Breton compilation (Carré Manchot, Ar Re Yaouank, Kern, and the like)
–(Johnny) Pacheco y su charanga; Cuban charanga music (five-key flute is the lead instrument)
–Jason Hacker, Those Who Have Gone Before Us; Native American flute (Choctaw)
–Robert Dick, Jazz Standards from Mars; The title says it all. Mind-bending Boehm fluting on piccolo, concert, bass, and contrabass flutes, with drums, percussion, bass, and string quartet. Regina Carter plays first/lead violin.
$5 each, plus $3 postage (US). Discounts for multiples. Inquire within for details (PM). They’re all in very good condition.
