I always seem to catch the same thing when I mention the absolute crap service/quality given by David Daye, every time I’ve ever dealt with him, as well as the same service received by many others - (three of which live in a few minutes drive of me for all the nay-sayers out there). The fact is, there are makers who have endeared themselves to certain folks and those of us who are set up to experience their latest whims (be they good or BAD) must form our own opinions.
It’s a shame that people can take so much money/time from an aspiring piper and either deliver something other than promised or perhaps as may be in your case, not at all.

I aint going nowhere Brian, I have been researching Stephenson pipes for quite a few months now. I was tipped off that there was something funny going on and not to purchase from this pipe maker until a resolution occurred.
I thought it strange that this pipe maker got sick enough not to be able to make pipes, but well enough to take the money from pipers. Do we need people like this?
Pipe cost loads of money, we have to save up to get the money, then we see people like this ready to con us with nothing to show?
Anyhow I think pipers everywhere today should rejoice that a rotten apple has been taken out of the barrel!!!
God help those who have placed orders with this maker and who have no chance to get anything for their money!!! I have never met the man, but have never heard anything good about his business practices.

To date, no one else has made a spectacle of a pipemaker in this fashion. Congratulations… however, something is wrong with this picture. What is your connection to Davy Stephenson that makes you so venomous?
Up until his illness, Davy has been a very capable pipemaker, his website was filled with photos of awesome products made by him. He generously gave his time to help anyone who needed it and posted pages of details and engineering information along with very valuable reed making drawings and instructions. Davy’s decision to take down his website is a great loss to the piping community.
Does this matter to you? probably not. Davy said he would make good on all the orders he has accepted. I believe he will. Since you haven’t placed an order, you can calm down now.
You were advised to back-off on the subject of Davy, move-on and seek another maker as Davy has retired from pipemaking. Why are you back ‘first reporting’ his website is offline?
What will it take for you you to just let it go?

Well you can probably afford to be ripped off of your money, most pipers cannot afford this type of disgraceful business bahaviour Tony.
Pipes are expensive, the last thing we need is wasters like this guy taking money and producing shit all.

I am glad to see that the real world has hit this maker and that he will not be in the conning business again…unless he starts making under a different name as I suspect he is planning in the not too distant future.

Pipeman, I read your post with interest. I do not personally know David Stephenson. However, back in the first of the year when I was looking for a pipe maker for a new set of pipes (I had never played before so I was looking for a practice set), one of people I contacted was David Stephenson.
In all of my talks with him I felt that he was being very honest and candid about his pipes and schedule. In the midst of our discussion he mentioned his wait time and then said that there is a man in Minnesota, USA that makes a fine set of pipes, David Boisvert, that could get me a set of pipes in 3-4 months. I asked him why he would send me to the “competition” and he said that he has had many good years of making pipes, he has a good backlog of orders, and he would like to help another pipe maker build a good clientele.
Since then I have received my pipes from David Boisvert and am very pleased. But let me ask you, what does that say about David Stephenson? Are you sure that you know all of the facts that you are asserting? The removal of his website is not an admission of wrong-doing, as you seem to assert.
How would you like for your person and character be assaulted as you are doing to David Stephenson? I really don’t think that you are handling this is a very mature and proper way.
I have used the analogy with our children that our words are like going outside on a very windy day and cutting open a feather pillow and letting the wind scatter the feathers. Later, we wish that we could re-gather all of the feathers but they are forever scattered. Are words, while they hurt more that a feather could, cannot be taken back once let out. We can only take proper steps to reconcile and ask forgiveness.
From what I do know, I believe that you are very mis-informed about David Stephenson. I believe that you owe him a public apology. If I find out in the future that I am mistaken and you are right, I will be deeply saddened that this occurred.

I am glad you get a nice set of pipes, however I note you did not get them from Mr Stephenson.
I asked for comments about Mr Stephenson on this forum and if you look back asked that comments be sent by private email or PM. I recieved PM’s from six bonifide customers who all said Davies pipes were ok but his business dealing were very shady, ie taking orfders and not giving the goods.
I do not rum Mr Stephensons business, he obviously loses customers as quick as he makes them, this is on;y my observations.
All I am stating is that when someone criticises a pipe maker, for whatever reason they get flamed!!! Why?
Look back at the past weeks posts, people were saying he has gone through a rough patch…he will soon be back…he has a new email…he will be making pipes again…seems he has even conned these people.!!!
All I want to say is this I came looking advice about this pipe maker, I got the advice to stay away from Mr Stephenson, I now pass on this message and get flamed by those who no doubt are losing money as agents now that he is bankrupted or whatever else has happened to him.
All I am saying is this if someone takes money and does not come up with the goods, good that his business crumples in a heap.
You found Mr Stephenson to be honest but paid no money to him…say no more…from what I hear had you paid him money your story to day would be a different tale.
As for me? I am off to join another forum where I will get honest opinions about pipe makers…too many cronies of Mr Stephenson on this board, reeping in commissions for supporting a dead duck if you ask me.
I am just glad to see that maybe now pipers will stand a better chance of recieving the pipes they order now that another con artists has been removed from the scene!!

If you bought a set from Mr Stephenson in the past I guess you can say goodbye to any after sales service now…however from what I hear nothing really has changed!!!
