Love that there’s a tune called ‘Blab not what you ought to smother’

Alan

Very cool! Thanks much, will print immediately.
Marc

Thanks for that, always wanted to check it out.

Thanks Alan. Very cool stuff…although, reading it sideways was a challenge…now, if I could only straighten my neck out.

Yes, thank you, Alan! Just printed mine. :sunglasses:

“Thump the Bitches” :astonished:

Yeah, I had a laugh over that one. I think the meaning has to do with breeding dogs…

…I can’t find a date. Does anyone know when this was published?

Nano…tis 1745-6.

It contains a good description of a “Birl” as played on GHB, only played on low D not A(Bb).
Also one of the Drones is tuned to A (La in the key of C), yet in the collection there are tunes in G, so presumably the A drone would be stopped or re-tuned to G.

I’ve owned a copy of this book for a long time, I suggested to someone once that the above title suggested a connection between 18th century Irish music and Gangsta rap…
O’Farrell’s later tutor said pipers generally only used two drones at a time, which is interesting in light of Wooff writing that the bores of these drones are generally a bit too loud for their chanter. Perhaps this was to give the performer a variety of flavors or options in the drone sound.
O’Farrell’s tutor is available in reprint, cleaned up, from Pat Sky, by the way. If you have an interest in these old books and antique piping in general, by all means you should read Denis Brook’s articles, “Irish Bellows Pipes,” printed in the American pipers’ club journal, the Piper’s Review.

Thanks Alan

Very cool book. There are several amusing titles.

I will have to check out the burl section. I love the sound of a burl, but I have never been too good at it. I broke my right pinky finger when I was a little boy and it doesn’t bend that well. Although there is that sideways slide, but I’m not good at that ether.

Thanks, Uilliam!

Thanks Alan…I finally got around to printing this book. I think I know what I’ll be reading when I turn in for the evening.

A Cormac McCarthy story about inevitable decline of friendship, the fear, the pain and suffering inflicted by a dark and lawless world?
Well, just about fits the bill methinks;)

Alan

…you’re good, you just read my mind…which, if you ask me, is a terrible thing to read before you turn in. :stuck_out_tongue:
