I’d really love to hear a sound clip of the chanter . I’d have my doubt’s about the quality of the tone,I’ve heard even Eb chanters can have a disagreeable tone.

He gave an F practice set to NPU during the mid eighties, I should have a soundclip of it somewhere of Neilidh Mulligan playing it at the presentation. Soundwise it was heading into Northumbrian pipe territory as far as I remember.
