Hi!
If your Water Weasel is still for sale I’ll buy it. I have been trying to get my hands one for quite some time.
Easiest if I can pay by direct bank transfer or PayPal.

All the best!

Any Water Weasel is a perfect lesson in putting to rest any negative feelings one has, concerning PVC whistles. I own three - a D, a C, and a grey A, like Jessie’s. I truly wish I could afford a Thin Weasel.

Best to all.

I have the WW Eflat/D/C set which is really nice, especially the C. I also have the WW Bflat/A set in the grey you refer to Byll; the WW B I’ve always felt is one of the great bangs for the buck in whistledom. And, I’ve still got my first high ender - a cocobolo D TW, which I don’t think I’ll ever be able to part with.

Byll - when you suggest some negativity to PVC in whistles, are you referring to tone, aesthetics or some perceived health issues with the material?

Philo

Ach, Philo… Not me. Uh Uh… I have no aversion to PVC. I own some made by both Glenn and Mack. My daughter likes her Hoover PVC whistles better than anything. Those who have commented in the past have mentioned tone, and the plastic-like quality of PVC. I personally find that the maker’s design characteristics and overall tonal philosophy have much more - much, much more - to do with the resulting timbre than does the material from which the instrument is made. Other’s mileage may, as they say, vary.

Be well, my friend.

I agree. Nobody has said it to me, but I think PVC, or maybe more specifically water pipe, is looked down upon to some degree. Perhaps it is because it is so easy to make a decent whistle from it. The dimensions are really quite good to make a pretty decent whistle with out a lot of bother. So could it be that the material takes the hit because many of the whistles that are made from it are fair but not great?

The quality of the whistle depends on many little things being just so. Not everyone who makes a PVC whistle has the tools etc. to take it to that level. However, if someone has the tools to turn a nice body from a block of wood, then they likely DO have what it takes to do a proper job on the rest as well. So the whistle comes out very nice and the wood is credited with having good sound.

It’s all just theory of course, but so many people think so much of the Water Weasel which was the start of this thread, and they are of course PVC.

I have a D and C. And just this week I finally came to the conclusion that they run circles around the Susatos that I have. So much easier to play and sound so much better …and I need all the help I can get

Worth every penny I paid for them (…now what do I do with these Susatos?),
Fred

Thanks guys for the positive words about Water Weasels.

They are very nice whistles but I want to fund a wooden whistle and something has to go :frowning:
