After much soul-searching and debate, I’m looking to sell my practically new Tony Dixon Duo (Flute/whistle combo) in Low D. I purchased it late last month right after Christmas from Whistle & Drum. While I love the low whistle’s sound, I don’t personally enjoy playing it as much as the high whistle.
I paid $125 for it new, plus I added the case as shown below for $30. I am willing to accept $110 (reasonable offers considered)for the whole package. PM me with any offers or questions.

Hi
Up to you entirely, but maybe it’d be worth sticking with trying to play it for a wee while longer. The low D takes a bit of getting used to after playing high D whistles, especially hiting the lower notes. I like playing slow aires/ayres/airs/hairs on mine, especially standing on my head. Playing “Australian Style” raises the back-pressure too, but also raises the blood pressure (I’m working on that photo, MT, but I just can’t press the camera button with my toes and play at the same time yet).
I have a Dixon Duo - I haven’t tried the flute head seriously yet, but maybe someday I’ll get around to it. The whistle is great though, but takes practice. It’s probably not the greatest low D, but I think it’s a good introduction to the low whistle at a very reasonable price. With the falling exchange rate, I suspect that the price in dollars might even drop a bit now (but don’t worry - I won’t tell anyone).
yeah, i have no complaints about the actual instrument. It plays well, has nice tone and has an easy reach. I’m not unhappy with it at all.
I just don’t envision myself getting the most out of it. I like my high whistle too much and the low takes the backseat and probably always will. I like listening to airs a whole lot more than playing them, I guess.
on a side note, I actually was practicing on the flutehead last night and was starting to get a good tone in low B, A, & G…“well well, that confuses things”, I thought.
if it sells, great. If it doesn’t, that’s fine too. i’ll probably throw it up on fleabay as a sort of last chance in a few days. if it doesn’t sell then, it’s a sign!
