The Beshendjiev kaval is sold
I’ve got a few flutes for sale to fund part of the purchase of a new daegeum for myself. The most unusual flute I built myself, it was a random idea I had to cross a shak, but add a membrane to it like you would find on daegeum or tungso. Its the 3rd flute from the top in the photo of Korean flutes. The flute basically is a 2.0 shak, so it plays well in C, however i’ve added the chong, which is the vibrating membrane. For the lacquer I used synthetic stuff instead of urushi, this is common practice in Korea and works very well. I am asking $500 for this flute. If you wait a month or two I can get a metal plate to cover it like on the daegeum, it’d proabably cost another $50 or so for a brass one.
The next flute for sale is a really nice tanso which I don't play enough to justify owning....daegeum takes up all my time in the realm of Korean music. It is made of black bamboo with a lacquer bore, which is pretty classy for tanso, they are normally quite simple. I am asking a fair price of $150 for it, which includes a nice padded case.
Last but not least, I've got two kavals I would like to part with, both in the key of D. The inlaid one is by Zdravko Beshendjiev, i'm asking $140 for that one...it's new. The other kaval has a stamp of "CKC" on it, so it could be a Spas Spassov, who I believe is just outside of Sofia. I'd like to get $120 for this kaval.
