FS: Slovakian Gajdy

Probably a bit too unusual for this forum, but figure I would offer it. I am selling my Slovakian gajdy to pay for my trip to Saint Chartier this July, as well as a flute I ordered. It was made last year by Juraj Dufek, and is the best I have played in my life. It is plum wood, with wire inlay, and in the key of A. I am asking $1,050. I can send pics upon request but I will be out of town till Tuesday, so don’t be suprised if I don’t get back to you right away. If you are interested send me a private message. I also will have a gaita in C available toward the end of July, I am just awaiting a new fol, and punteiro for it.

And for those interested in hearing what this beastie sounds like, I did a search and managed to stumble across this page with lots of MP3’s. Just download anything that looks like a link. Unless you read Czech and can figure out what’s going on.

The music from this site are played with Bohemian bagpipes, which is bellows blown. Slovakian bagpipe is completely different, it is mouth blown and has a double bore chanter, a close relative to the Hungarian bagpipes.
Slovakian, Hungarian and Croatian bagpipes with their double (three or four) bore chanters have so special playing characteristics that they form a completely unique group of bagpipes.
Similarly, Uilleann with its two octave and regulators is so special that it is completely different from any other bagpipes, IMHO.

Hogy vagy Nemethmik?

I think that’s one of the few things that I could remember from my university time hungarian girlfriend (besides SZERETLEK → I love ya):stuck_out_tongue:

Do you have hungarian pipes yourself? Could you show us some pictures or some links to sound files?

Köszönöm

I played a set of these for a while a few months ago. Really nice. Wish I could blow $1k I’d get the set…

If your’re going to St. Chartier and haven’t sold your pipes by then, you could take them with you and sell them on the used instrument market. Drop in to Chris Bayley’s stall and say hello!

I have considered selling them there, but I rather get the job done here so I can take my gaita and some flutes I made with me. I know I probably will come back with another set up pipes too, so many to choose from there. If anyone is looking for sound samples, some can be found on this site http://www.gajdy.host.sk/
BTW, if anyone else is going to be at Saint Chartier, let me know. I am going it alone, and it would be nice to know a few more people there.

Is http://gajdy.cz/index.php?str=rubrika&cislo=11 the download page? Lots of MP3s but I can’t get my Czech-English translator page to work, to make sure.
My favorite bagpipe from ‘round them parts is the Hungarian Dudy, this one track of it I found, music from the Ipoly River area is rockin’ stuff. Very lifty double chanter music, lots of vamping.
