Cillian O Briain Low Eb is SOLD
Fiddle is SOLD
I hardly ever pick up my whistles anymore since being flute-bit, and I can use some cash besides. They are all excellent instruments worthy of play, and can be yours to enjoy now. All prices include priority mail insured shipping in the continental USA.
**[SOLD]**Michael Burke High D Composite Session Bore (2/2003) $70 was $80 (tunable)
A very friendly toned high d whistle, not piercing at all, and capable of good presence for sessions if pushed, and able to be played quietly at home too. Second octave does get a little loud in the upper reaches. It has a rich tone that is probably due to the wider bore, and of course the composite material. Personally, I don’t see the need for the narrow bore with this one available. A nice whistle to just pick up and play; no warm-up needed. The tuning slide is a little tight (edit-just took care of that-it’s fine now). I just don’t play high whistles much at all, or I would keep it. It is the best high d I have.
[SOLD] Michael Burke Low D Pro Composite old style (2/2000) $125 was $150 (tunable)
Woody, sweet, pure toned, very responsive (better response & lighter weight than newer models) and no back pressure. Plays very well without warm-up unlike most metal whistles (nice for cold weather) one of my favorites, just a delight to play. Not a bad stretch on the lower holes either, for a Low D.
Cillian O Briain Low Eb Aluminum recent $125 was $150 (non-tunable)
For those Eb & Bb tunes or sessions, without the expense of an Eb flute. Very distinctive aluminum whistle, with wonderful response and rich tone, slight chiff, no back pressure. About the same stretch as the Burke Low D above, so it’s a little more than some Eb whistles, but good by Low D standards.
Cillian stopped all production of low whistles about 2 years ago to concentrate on pipes, about the time I bought this new from Whistle & Drum. Also a delight to play due again to the quick response and great tone.
**[SOLD]**Monty Levenson Tiger Bamboo Meditation Shakuhachi recent 1.8 size (approx to Low D) 5 hole Pentatonic scale (four top, one under for thumb) $85 (non-tunable)
As you know, not a whistle, but played very much like one, except no fipple on the end, just a cut out, that splits the stream of air when you blow from the end like the whistle. Nice mellow bamboo tone, and a real different sound with the Pentatonic scale. Quite in tune with itself, but the low note is about a C# I believe from what I remember (don’t have tuner now that works). That is the norm with the Meditation Shaks, and you have to spend quite a bit more to get it in perfect concert pitch. But, it is, as I said, quite in tune through the scale with itself. It just means you probably won’t be able to play along with tunes, unless you have a slow-downer program or the like. No biggie, it’s a blast to play, and the rewards come from hearing it’s mellow Pentatonic tones. There is one on Ebay now (not mine) that is the same model, but new, just to give you an idea what it is like, and the value.
It comes with all the extras shown there too-Binding, wool vapor barrier bag, utaguchi cover, cloth, oil. About $200 retail for these! If you’ve ever wanted to try one, this is an excellent deal to get you started.
Email or PM me if interested in these. I can take PayPal (if not a credit card) at the email address listed in my profile, or a US Postal Money Order. Thank you.
