And here are a few pictures of it:

Is that the going rate for an ebonite H&S these days?

Dave M sold his for 2.5k on here in 2010. The one I have is in even better shape, the ebonite hasn’t changed color, looks like a brand new flute.

the one i sold, as i recall, was a Sonorous class flute, the second-best that Hawkes made, hence the price.
Excelsior was their best.
you don’t say what yours is.

Just edited the post to include pics and a video. The flute is a “Excelsior” flute that in my opinion sounds better than the cocus wood “Excelsior Sonorous Class” flute that I had. The ebonite is lighter and in my opinion the notes have a nice pop to them.

Gorgeous flute!

It will be, if you buy it now

That’s a fantastic ebonite flute Gaitero. Best of luck with the sale. I love the sound clip you’ve shown - a very jolly piece of music indeed. Is it only in pitch when the tenon is extended as you have done?

Cylinrical bore?

Excelsior was the best model Hawkes made. It seems in really great shape.
I had one for years that i really enjoyed playing in wintertime when air is dry and fires lit, etc, make for some unsavory conditions for a wood flute.
Yours appears in very nice condition.
Frankly, you could get more $ for it…but, you sell for the price you’re comfy.

the Boehm system foot is a favorite, too. easier to play and much more comfortable. I think Hammy makes his flutes with this foot construction, no?

good luck with the sale.

to answer one query…these are conoidal bores, not cylindrical.

Here’s some more useful specs for those interested in this flute. The overall length is 65cm, the C# to Eb is 249mm, it plays at 440 with the slide out 20mm.

The flute has been sold.
