SOLD: 8 key antique flute attributed to Alexander Liddle

The flute is sold, but I may have a few other antiques I will sell in the not so distant future. Contact me if you are interested.

It kills me to sell this flute, but since I need to pay some stuff off as well as buy groceries, I need to sell my favorite flute. It’s a fantastic instrument that I have been told was made by Alexander Liddle, all of the keys bear his stamp. It is made out of cocus and nickel silver, no cracks whatsoever on the whole flute. It also has a new matching headjoint by Dave Copley, that way I can play at 440 without pulling the head out too much. With the original head it plays best at 452, which was the correct tuning for the time.
As far as playing characteristics, the flute plays very much like a medium hole Hawkes & Son. If you’ve played a Paddy Ward Hawkes copy, you’ll find this flute to be very close. What I like so much about it is the fact you can get a really dark harmonically saturated sound with little effort. Once warmed up it also has quite a punch to it. The tuning across the entire range of the flute is spot on, including all the keys, which btw, work great… even the foot. Because of the condition, the cost of overhauling it, and the new head, I would like to get $1,600. As I said, I really don’t want to sell this flute, but i’ve been having difficulty selling other things, so I am forced to let it go. If you are interested shoot me an email to buttonbox(at)gmail(dot)com. I do not check my pm’s often, so email would be preferred.

$1,600 is a hell of a deal. Somebody buy this flute before I loose self-control… :astonished:

Interesting… the Copley HJ has a sharper edge and smaller embouchure hole?

Yes, the edge is sharper, but the embouchure holes are very close to the same size. This is a really nice playing flute, with plenty of volume, and the overall condition is outstanding. I don’t have any interest in the sale other than the hope that OG might spend some of the proceeds with me.
