I am going to part with my uilleann pipes to help pay for a new 8 key flute; I got the flute and the pipes at the same time and the flute won.
I got the set in 2004 and they were made in 1997. They are rosewood, imitation ivory mounts and brass ferrules. I have adapted them to take a Nigel Richard set of bellows that I had spare from the borders I play, as they were in much better condition and they work well. They have been re-reeded by Alan Burton. There is a small crack in the chanter stock but it’s easy to fix but haven’t go around to it as it closes up when the chanter is in.
There are also a few very small tarnish marks on the middle section of the bass drone when it was left in the box when it had got a slight spatter of something before being put in.
I was thinking maybe £1250 ono buyer pays postage, unless in UK where I’ll pay it. Does that sound like a reasonable price?
I meant to try and sell these pipes over the summer but it’s been crazy busy with work and gigs and it’s just flew past. My 8 key flute is now due in a month and I really need to get off my backside and sell these pipes.
Please excuse the playing as I’ve not touched them since I tried to learn them a few years ago but I hope it gives you an idea of the sound. I’m including a box in the price which was made by a cabinet maker friend of mine, you have to take the bass out to fit them in but it’s a really solid and airtight case plus it’s well cushioned. For all the chiffers I will include shipping in the price and I’ll stick them on Uilleann Obsession then Ebay after a week or so if I have no offers. Price is still £1250 and I will make sure they are marked as a gift for shipping purposes.
They’ve been used every so often and I gave them a good clean, checked the tenons, reeds etc before taking the pics. The bass drone is a wee bit out of line in the first pic but I’ve sorted that.
I play borderpipes, bagpipes and smallpipes in two bands and solo so bagpipe maintenance is something I’ve got plenty practice in.
wow guys wusah… remember your pressure points. I was just saying maybe Bruce has had some updates to his chanter or something. It’s always good to ask when a set is being sold. No offense meant. I bet you’re all good at maintenance, and if we ever meet I’ll buy you a pint, I was just suggesting that maybe some updates have been made in the 13 years since they’ve been out and about.
You’re right Sean, he probably has done quite a few changes but I’d have to send them state-side then back for here to sell them. I didn’t mean to come across as snappy, sorry.
I did not see these pipes until after you listed them on Ebay
If you do not get close to your original asking price will you remove them ?
I may be interested, but I don’t like dealing through Ebay
How much would you like to get for them ?
I have a practice set right now and am looking to upgrade to a half set.
I had a rosewood Childress B chanter. Comparing photos when I received it and a year later, the wood darkened nicely. Not only did it look great, it sounded great too!
I managed to sell the pipes privately. The day I put them on ebay I got a spate of enquiries and someone who was on holiday in Scotland called round and bought them. Sorry to have to pull it off ebay.
Does anyone know how to change the title of the thread so it says sold.
New flute is ready to be picked up, v excited. Get it on Wednesday, will post some pics.
