Paul will think I’m crazy, but I’m putting my Fullerton Gloucester up for sale!
The reason this time is simple. I bought the Gloucester as an affordable way to see how I got on with an F style, f-hole mandolin.
Well, I got on great, as you’ll have heard. It’s an all purpose mandolin that works great for folk and ITM as well as blues, bluegrass and Hayseed Dixie style rock covers! It has performed well at quite a few sessions, and a couple of gigs. I am so sold on the F style that I’m ready to step up a level and invest some more money.
So, my Gloucester is officially up for sale.
It is slightly different to Paul’s because I made a nice custom bone nut to replace the stock plastic one. I have also begun the process of buffing the matt finish to a medium gloss - partly to thin the finish even more and to coax out as much tone and volume as the mando has to offer.
Pics here: LINK to pics and one of several Fullerton discussions
but specs are as follows:
F-style, f-hole mandolin
Spruce top, maple back and sides - all solid, no laminate
Thin brown finish, partly buffed to medium gloss
Full front and back binding
adjustable truss rod
It’s actually a pretty good tribute to a Gibbo F9 - except the F9 doesn’t have back binding like this one does ![]()
Great mandolin. Very good action. Good tone and surprising volume! Heavy pick and real digging in recommended to get the best out of the bluegrass potential. Can be played delicately, but is sturdy and very well constructed - so no reason not to play as boisterously as you want!
This mando is good enough to have convinced me to spend 4 or 5 times as much on a mandolin of the same basic kind - hence the sale.
Includes hard case (modified interior to provide the support the mandolin requires).
£200 GBP plus shipping.
As with the Eastman, no offers please. It’s worth every penny and more. Oh, and they are no longer available new.
These mandos caused quite a stir with their quality and value (check out the Mandolin Cafe discussions on Fullerton mandolins for confirmation).
If no one wants it, I’ll very happily keep it as a back-up.
