FS: 8-key D flute €500

Hi

This is an 8-key, post-mounted, small-holed flute of anonymous German origin. Probably built around 100 years ago. I am asking €500 for it (Because of the current value of the $ and £ this may not be a reasonable price. If you are interested in this flute, don’t hesitate to get in touch with your best offer. I would also be willing for a partial trade with a middle-range concertina). This is the perfect flute for someone thinking about getting a keyed flute without breaking the bank - you may outgrow it quickly but it has served me well.

I bought it off Jemtheflute 2 years ago (for around the same price). He improved the embouchure, recorked and repadded it. I have taken good care of it since then. The bump on the metal at the bottom of the foot and the nick near the finger hole nearest the embouchure were already there at the time. The action of the keys is very smooth and fast (better than many flutes which cost 4 times the price).

I originally bought it to see whether I wanted a fully keyed flute or whether I should stick with a keyless. Keyed is good for me. The flute’s tone is nice and complex in the top register, but gets a bit soft in the bottom of the first octave (I believe a new foot would work wonders on it). I upgraded to a 6-keyed flute costing over twice the price with a good bark to it. If you like a flute with a big loud bark, this is not the flute for you. If you want a quieter, complex tone, you may like the sound much better than I. Many people have told me they preferred my sound on this one than on flutes which I prefer.

Here is a sound file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/223827/german-flute-demo.mp3. I play Green Mountain (in D, range D to b) and the Devil’s Swagger (in Gmin ^F, range D to g) first on the flute for sale and then on my current flute for comparison. As you can see, the embouchures for the two are very different - both recordings are slightly out of tune and, as I no longer play the flute I am selling, there is a slight hiss in the 2nd octave. These are not caracteristics of the flute, but of my embouchure on it.

Here are pics. Any questions can be addressed by email: gregdyke A T gmail D O T com. I am based in Saint Etienne in France.

Still for sale. As I mention in my post, €500 is maybe a bit optimistic given the exchange rate with $ and £. If you are interested in this flute, make me an offer.
