Fruit Cake

What the heck, for old time forgotten recipes, I’ll throw in

Suet pudding
Mix 3c bread crumbs
1C sugar
1C chopped suet
2C raisins
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cinnamon
1 C sour cream
1 tsp Vanilla
1 tsp soda in
1/4c hot water.

Steam for 3 1/2 hours in a double boiler
Serve with cream.

Hmm, the Joy of cooking has a recipe for that too
and it also suggests figs as one of the possible fruits.

Good luck finding fresh suet these days.
Or leaf lard for a pie crust for that matter.

If it was anything like my grandmother’s prune cake, I’d have to wholeheartedly agree.
