A while back I offered this whistle for trade but was in no hurry to move it. I’m still in no hurry for it to leave but due to some purchases from this board, I’m more willing to find it a new home.
This is a Burke Al Pro low D dated 11/2000. It comes with a like new Burke roll case. Nothing wrong with the whistle, I just have another low D on the way.
Cash $165 + $5 shipping and insurance. One just went on eBay for $160+ and there was no mention of the roll case going with it…and the roll case is nice. The case wouldn’t be going but I have another roll case already. I think the case and whistle are $210 from Mike. If there are no takers it will go on eBay in a couple of weeks.
All trades considered but I’m partial to Burke composites and Overtons (if I don’t already have it). I’d really like to find a Burke composite narrow bore D or composite C.
Please post off board at my email below
Peace

Hi Jim,
Just curious about what whistle is “on the way”
What is your feeling about the Burke? I have one of those on the way.
Patrick
Hey Patrick,
I’m the lucky one who is getting Kevin’s Overton Big Hole low D. I’m seriously excited!
I traded for the Burke Al Pro Low D a little over a year ago. Eventhough it was my first low D, I was doing well and was able to play from almost day one using the piper’s grip. Then I went and broke my right leg and right wrist. (You can choose stories between some fool falling off a camp stool on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota or helping to rescue a buffalo on the same reservation…the buffalo story is more entertaining) So I had to put the whistle away for quite some time since there were complications in my healing process. As I started getting better I acquired several nice whistles in the higher range and never spent the time needed on the Burke Low.
A couple of months ago I got an Overton F and really liked it so now I’m getting the Overton Low D. With it coming I have again picked up the Burke and appreciate it more than I did previously. I’m remembering that even though I’ve been playing for 4 years now, I have a cycle of getting new whistle and really liking it for a bit and then becoming disenchanted with the sound. If I continue to play it for a while and find the groove where it and I intersect, something magical happens.
The Burke is mellow but clear. It doesn’t have that cosmic drainpipe sound you hear about but it has it’s own nice sound. I have medium to small hands but have absolutely no problem covering the holes (and this is the standard, not the ez reach model). What I’m finding is that it forces me to pay attention to my breath, in some ways like I have to with my Mack high D which is very sensitive to air pressure. I’m finding that in its own way the Burke is also sensitive if I’m to get the best sound. I think for a while I was overblowing or playing too tentatively and then blaming poor sound on the whistle. It breaks down into three pieces and travels really well. I wish I had a composite with which to compare it, since I really really like the sound of my Burke composite A and Bflat. If I end up keeping it, it will probably be my “traveling Low D”.
Those are just my thoughts on the whistle I have. It has taught me much. I didn’t do my part early in our relationship to give it the attention it needed and deserved but it has been patient with me and seems to have forgiven me.
BTW, I’ve found that the silicone grease I found in the plumber’s supply area of my hardware store really works great on all the connections.
