Foolproof Fipple Design

On one of Rick Miller’s flute crafting pages at:

http://home.earthlink.net/~rdmiller3/flutes/methods.html

he describes a ‘foolproof fipple design’ for an end-blown flute (whistle?) based on the Native American design, but modified to make it suitable for plastic pipe.

The question: Have any of you whistle makers ever tried this approach?

I built some of my first whistles this way.
It does work, but it’s a little weak. It is not the sound that most people are looking for.

The nice thing about is, that it’s simple. You don’t have to do anything special with the block, as long as fits.
