flutes irlandaises de Gilles LeHart

I did a search and read what I could find on this message board about these flutes. As if the fact that these flutes are played by Jean-Michel Veillon and Mike McGoldrick wasn’t enough. What I read was all good. I was just looking for any other feedback. Anybody new have one? Anybody care to rate them against Olwells and other popular makers? I don’t suppose anybody has played his bombardes or binious, no?

Hey, Aaron,

I’ve been playing my three-keyed Lehart flute for about a year, and wouldn’t play anything else if you paid me. It (as well as every other Lehart I’ve played) has an amazingly concentrated and laser-like accuracy of tone that I’ve only seen equalled in a Grinter.

Caveat emptor, though: Lehart flutes are anything but what you’d call “classic Irish session flutes”. They’re not the loudest flutes out there; they haven’t got as much of the breathy, reedy overtones; and they take a very specific and sometimes touchy embrochure. To use my standard analogy, if flutes were weapons, Olwells would be medieval broadswords and Leharts would be swept-hilt rapiers, if you get my meaning

But nonetheless, for the money you’ll spend, I’d say they’re the best buy in the world if you’re looking for that tight, very “tidy” tone like McGoldrick or Veillon. Plus, M. Lehart is a great guy, easy to work with, and extraordinarily punctual.

Regards,

Jamey Hamilton.

hey, how’s it going, this is in response to aaron’s interest in lehart flutes. i got my first one a couple of years ago, after playing one of olwell’s bamboo flutes for a while. i would definitely recommend lehart’s flutes; as has already been noted, they are very responsive, and the difference in loudness and sound was very well expressed in jamie’s response. in terms of price, you’d have a hard time finding that kind of quality and punctuality for any lower or equal amount. go for it.
