Gilles Lehart flute

I’ve been thinking of a new flute and feel myself being drawn to one by Gilles Lehart. I’ve been reading as much as I can here and elsewhere but would like to hear from people here what they think of Lehart flutes. Also, anyone got any youtubes or soundclips of them they’d be willing to share?

DRD is a band from Asturia and the flute player has a Lehart in D : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D544we-_Y8o. It sounds good !

Nice!

Here’s another clip I found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_wAm0_CceQ

here is video of eb lehart… http://youtu.be/5EPMOiBVJBw

I believe Michael McGoldrick used to play them before he got Grinters.

If you buy keyless there are lots of other flutes in about the same price range that you may want to consider, but if you want keys Lehart makes the greatest deal for the money. His flutes are very nice.

Am I right that these are rudally?
The copper rings are interesting and surely help lower prices.

Can’t find any youtube clips, but the flute player from the Tannahill Weavers plays an Eb Lehart FWIW. As somebody said, Mike McGoldrick played a Lehart before he got into Grinter’s flutes.

Never played one meself, but I’m hoping to pick up a 2 or 3 keyed Eb flute at some point, and Gilles would be pretty much at the top of my list.

I used to have a Lehart keyless and really enjoyed it.

Am I right that these are rudally?

In the holes/bore size maybe (on the large side), but the sound is very unique.

Sylvain Barou played one too as I recall…on one of the WOoden FLute Obsesson CDs I think…

I quite like Lehart’s. Whenever a keyed one comes through the shop I’m tempted to keep it and then some bozo buys it before I get around to taking it off the site.

It just so happens… I have a Gilles Lehart 6-key flute that I am selling. It is in perfect condition. Just repadded and joints recorked. Comes in a very protective pistol case. Looks great, plays great. It is a very good flute. These are great value at €1,260 before shipping. I’ll sell mine for €990 + shipping.

If you don’t like it you can return it and get your money back but the postage will be on you.

See, a nice 6 keyed flute for 1000 euros. Go for it.

Thanks very much for the replies folks. I had a keyless in mind as, playing mostly scottish I’ve learned to cross finger reasonably well, but have been tempted with keys. Now I want that one!!!

Are you aware that cross fingering on a large holed flute is not going to work so well, compared to a small holed flute?

I’ve no experience of that Othannen but have read it right enough. I’ve been playing one of Casey Burns folk flutes which has small holes, and a De Keyser with larger holes leant to me by a friend - though I haven’t got on so well with that one to be honest. I don’t really need a new flute yet but after a surprisingly favourable response from my better 1/2 I can’t seem to be able to resist

Thanks again for everyones help. If all goes to plan that 6 key Lehart will be making it’s way from Clare to Skye this week

Hope you’ll be really happy with it after its serendipitous landing here!

Thanks Peter, champing at the bit already!

Perhaps you can give us a report when you have an opportunity to play the flute a bit.
