Flute teacher in the Pittsburgh area

Hi everyone. I have recently started trying to teach myself irish flute, but I was thinking about getting a teacher. I was wondering if anyone knew any Irish flute teachers in the Pittsburgh area? Thanks. Oh yea, go steelers!!!

as a musician, don’t you feel slighted that they don’t televise the half-time show? i used to live near pittsburgh back when they won all the superbowls but i’m teaching myself how to play the flute too, so i’m in no better shape than you.

As a musician I do, but as a steelers fan…
All I can say is I can’t wait for the game!

You might try contacting Carla Dundes (well known musician in Pittsburgh, plays with Oliver Browne and others). She’s a brilliant whistle player and also has been working on the flute for the past several years. I don’t know if she would consider herself qualified to teach flute, but I bet she could help you get started off on the right foot.

Here in Pittsburgh we have a few good whistle players. We have lots of strings and a few boxes. What we really don’t have are flute players.

I only remember one very good flute player in town and I haven’t seen him in over 10 years (I also know that he’s never had interest in giving lessons and he never attends a session).

Your best bet would be Calliope House or, as stated, talk to Carla Dundes (who is in CCE and has quite a few contacts).

Hope this helps.
