Florida Chiffers! Start cooking everything in the freezer!

Look what just appeared over by the Bahamas . . . expected to be a hurricane by landfall . . . though probably not a big one.

I hope it’s not bad. There are too many hurricanes in Florida.

BTW, I think this post (“start cooking everything in the freezer”) fits Dale’s “weird headlines” thread. :stuck_out_tongue:

It doesn’t even have a name, yet. The last one I heard about was Irene (good night) which was a bit of a bust. Have I missed any?

djm

Yup. You missed Jose. It formed in the Bay of Campeche and went west into Mexico.

This one should be a hurricane in about 48 hours. By the time it reaches landfall. It’s not even showing up nicely in the satellite views, yet.

You know how I knew this was in the offing? Psychic? No. Hotline to my cousin at the Weather Channel? No. How did I know?

I got my car out of the body shop on Saturday.

Hurricane season. I’ll have to gas up both generators now!!

I’ve been watching this one for a few days now… very active weather down there… I suppose I could stock up on the booze and habeneros now. :stuck_out_tongue:

Isn’t Texas, Louisiana or North Carolina about due? Everyone ought to do their share.

I suppose it depends on if it’s a red or blue hurricane where it will hit.

Rim shot.

Joe, looks like the habeneros are on their way to you.

They’re calling it tropical storm Katrina now, I think.

Isn’t it odd that they usually give such storms tame names? I would think that names like ‘Lance’, ‘Conan’ and ‘Red Sonya’ would be more appropriate.

YeeeeeeHaaaaaaw!!!

Here she comes! You folks down south of me take care and good luck to ye’.

If you are interested in keep track of Katrina, here is a link to a live radar image. http://www.baynews9.com/StateDoppler.html

Business was brisk at gas stations even last night . . . a car at every pump. Same this morning at 0700. No lines yet, though. (The ports close to tanker traffic and we run out of gas.)

Yesterday, the grocery store near me had to bring in extra workers to restock shelves. They already had giant pallets of water strategically located near the doors, along with huge stacks of tuna/crackers and what-all. At 0700 this morning, it looked like the stores had opened early and there were already a lot of cars in the lots.

I did forget to stop by the ATM last night. Now, I’m going to have to take my lunch to go to the bank, because the ATMs were already out of cash this morning. :imp:

Hehe…let [Katrina] come! I’m putting the finishing touches on my kite! I’m ready though. We’re stocked up on food and supplies. Last year, there was no damage to the roof (except for about 8 shingle fragments). It’s an old roof, but we had it redone earlier this year. So we’re double prepared. I should probably call me grandmother and see if she wants to spend the weekend with us. I love it when my grandma comes over. Good food (cooked over the stove  ).

I just came in from outside… it’s calm, almost no rain. The eye of the storm just passed over my area.

This is obviously yet another crime of Bush and his henchmen. You woulda been safer in Cuba!

Working on a generator now…
The whole neighborhood is without power.

Ah, but I see you still have internet access . . . so you’ve got the necessary!

Are you in Miami, then?

With the new track forecast, the Florida panhandle looks like it’s going to get it yet again . . .

Here you can see that Katrina is nearly out into Gulf waters.

I would have been more prepared has the forecasters been SLIGHTLY accurate.
They were saying the storm would hit land late Thursday night possibly Friday morning and travel due West curving slightly upward.
What we got was SIX HOURS EARLIER than forecasted 40 miles South of the projected strike point and the direction South Southwest. What’s up with that??
My quest this morning is to find gas for the generator. It went off during the early morning.
The food in the refrigerator is still good and I’ve got gas cooking and gas water heater, so it’s really inconvenient but manageable.

My daughter sends her wishes. Her name is Katrina.

Yeah daddy… and she’s packed her bags headed to your place for the weekend!
