I smell Jeanne

Watchout East Coast USA… Jeanne’s on the move

Was talking to my dad in south Florida (a six-plus-decades hurricane veteran) a few days ago. He said they were relieved, looked like Jeanne was moving away. “Unless,” he added thoughtfully, “It makes a U-turn and comes back. I’ve seen them do that.” Naturally, I scoffed. “Never happen,” I said.

Woooops.

Political Hurricanes?

grrrrr…2 of the kids are supposed to be going to Disney World on Sunday till next Friday with their grandparents. I wonder how Jeanne will affect that

Pack raincoats and umbrellas in their luggage.

I live very close to WDW, and if Jeanne hits where they are saying it may (according to the map above), it will get downright windy, rainy, and the possibility of tornadic activety is always a concern with these storms. But, who knows how strong she’ll be when she makes land fall…could be that we get of easy again. One can only hope.

Heck, Ivan’s reformed in the Gulf, anything’s possible w/ these crazy storms.

We’re still recovering here from Ivan’s first round. So, a couple of mornings ago my wife is watching the news and she yells to me from the room she was in “They’re saying that Ivan is back in the Gulf .” And I say “Oh, no, no, Dear, you must have misunderstood, Ivan is pretty much gone.” ANd then I pull up a website and, yep, there’s Little Ivan in the Gulf. This has been one really weird and tragic hurricane season…and we ain’t even done.

According to the weather people on tv, this season hasn’t been weird or tragic at all, but “typical”. The last few years have been weird in that they weren’t as violent as this year has been.

Well, Tony, it looks as though we’re in for another blow. This time it looks as though you will probably get the brunt of it. Where I live, they’re listing a hurricane winds warning, and I am torn whether or not I should evacuate for a third time. I guess for me it depends on the catagory JEANNE will be, once she makes landfall. I may chance a catagory 2, but not a 3. Get yourself plenty of fuel my friend and good luck. Same goes out to all Florida and East Coast Chiff and Fippers. Who said you ‘can’t have too much of a good thing’? I, for one, would like to see just a little bit of a good thing right about now.

I heard on the news that this is the first time in 3 decades you’ve have
this many hurricanes within a month. I thought it was headed north of Miami.

stay safe Joseph, Tony, and all you Chiffers in FL!

Its current track puts the eye of the storm North of Miami…actually, on a collision course with my location. But they’re gonna have a good deal of fun down Miami way all the same. To quote George Jetson: “Jane, get me off this crazy thing!”

Jeanne should hit landfall 150 miles north of me so we won’t be too bad here.
We’re expecting 40-70mph winds in North Miami so I’m boarding up and securing the patio metal awning with ski rope anchored to the ground.
I have an amateur radio tower with antenna that’s nearly 60 feet high to the tip, I usually run ski rope supports to keep it from thrashing itself to death.
Hoping we won’t be so long without electricity, I’ve got enough gas for the generator to provide power for 3 days.
Joseph, I suggest you bail out and go to the West coast tonight.

…again? Yeah, I suppose we will. Have to wait until the wife gets home from work, then we’ll make our plans. This hurricane business is seriously interfering with my down-time.

Better perspective ?

Cool, I can always count on you for spectacular storm images. We have decided to hunker down and stick it out. We attempted to find a room somewhere that takes pets, but no go. There are also no shelters that take pets around here either. The dog goes where we go, and vice versa.

And it’s a gorgeous dog.

Thank you very much…(like I had anything to do with it  ). He’s like a son to us, and there is no way we’d leave him behind. The mighty Squeegee, stalwart friend and hyperactive fool.

Here’s a neato satalite loop:
