" oh, and Damn you, weak US Dollar " …
Not if you’re an Aussie

Would I be correct in guessing that’s a Gen he’s playing in the picture?

WHat’s the name of the 1st tune?,i would like to get that sheet music, nice rolls

The sample clip? Seán sa Cheo.

The track/tune listing of the original LP is on The Session: http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/1222

Cool!

Donncha was the King of whistle playing, in my opinion. I hope a shop in the US or Canada will carry the CD at one point.

had a hard time finding it, “finally” got it from ossian in NH, thanks to charlie and marylou!

i had it digital as it was probably the 3rd LP i bought low those many years ago, from LP to tape to CD, the track names got lost and/or confusing, so i’m very happy it’s been re-issued on CD with bonus tracks! the order of tunes seems to have changed but maybe i’m wrong… cd’s got nice liner by Glacken and Mick his brother o’brien. a seminal recording if there ever was one on whistle. surprised there’s not more of a hubbub about it here, but then i tend to avoid the place.

i went from re-learning some of the old stuff “maid of mount cisco, maple leaf, man of aran” to shockingly learning “the girl that broke my heart”, very sweet playing, love the falling rolls from the A to a D cran, which i then referenced to marty hayes recent cd, and then de dannan’s version you can learn alot comparing versions and approaches. Mister Hayes gives it this minor feel by flattening the C# to C and the F# to F making and slowing it down and schmaltzing it up (cool though), in retrospect i’ve learned more about trad from this one recording than perhaps any other.

admit i’ve been dropping it into transcribe, changing keys to F dropping it an octave and playing along on a shaw low F, great fun… makes it sound very flutey, dude, the kid’s/young man’s ability to vary the melody, drop a cut or freak you out with almost silliness in his whimsical style is stunning, and fast he made fast seem reasonable, easy smooth, brutally great music.

also interesting to get mick’s new “deadly buzz” recording and find double whistles on it which is so very reminiscent of his brother and “that” album. CCE put out a book of the tunes but it doesn’t come close to the real stewf…

have fun, keep tootin

made my year, to have this gem re-issued

whistle talib always

did the sample track 2 not work for you guys as well? 1 and 3 sounded great though!

Just me?

Sorry, the site you requested has been disabled

Well, if you clicked on http://www.tuxedomusic.com
which is the site that’s always in mickey66’s “signature”,
then yeah, that is what I get too. But that has nothing
to do with the CD in question.

Try clicking on the CD image in the OP instead.

Just got mine from Ossian.

Well worth every penny.
