I’ve been trying to get my hands on a copy of this LP, but it is long out of “print”. Would someone kindly contact me at turnpike1@comcast.net if they would be willing to make and sell me a digitized copy?
Thanks

Good luck finding the record for cheap, a copy sold on Ebay for something like $57 last month.
I have the LP, in decent condition, given to me by John Purcel. I can copy to tape, but am not sure how to get it from tape to digital version. Any suggestions? I’ll gladly send a tape via snail mail

I recently used Audacity to make a CD from a tape and it worked out ok.
It would be better to it directly from LP to digital though.
Dan, I can do this for you if you want.

I had considered bidding for it but the price was quickly beyond what I was prepared to pay.
The annoying thing is, is that I own a copy but have lent it out and can not remember who I lent it to. I have quizzed the usual suspects and they have denied all knowledge.
Sometime ago I came across a web site selling it as a CD and typically for me put off making a purchase until several months later when I’d forgotten the name of the web site and had not bookmarked it either. ![]()
Hello,
I apologize if this has been mentioned before. The other day while record shopping I came across an lp from a folk singer Nigel Denver entitled “Rebellion” that features Felix Doran on 2 tracks, “Bold Robert Emmet” and “Father Murphy”. There’s two photo’s of Felix on the back,

It was an unexpected find for me, anyone know if there is a complete Felix Doran discography out there somewhere…
Thanks in advance,
John M
The only two albums I know of are “Last of the Travelling Pipers”, re-issued on casette by Ossian 1992, and some live recordings simply called “Felix Doran” on Folktrax FTX 172. There are probably lots of private recordings floating about if you know someone in Ireland who is in the know.

Thanks djm,
I’m aware of those, a Copley 78, and a version of Cregg’s Pipes on a Gael Linn lp. There are also a few compilations that feature tracks that can be found on the Last of The Traveling Pipers LP, not to mention the odd bit achieved on the RTE site. Just wonderin the extent of his commercial recordings,
Cheers,
John M
That about covers every recording of him, period. Breandan Breathnach recorded him in 1969 and transcribed some of that for Ceol Rince Vol. 2, and there are a handful of other sides, and that’s the lot. The RTE stuff was very nice, hope they bring that back some day.
Bought an old piccolo (octave flute) which arrived today, it has a metal-encased headjoint, which has cracks in the wood inside of the metal that leak like nobody’s business - couldn’t help but think of Felix’s metal-encased Rowsome pipes with their gusts of leaks, which Paddy Moloney said “almost killed me” trying to deal with. I’m curing the headjoint by running molten beeswax in the cracks; sounds like Felix would’ve done well to just drop the whole set in a vat of the stuff…
Come on now Kevin,
That about covers every recording of him, period.
is a bit absolute. All recordings you KNOW of him ![]()
I sense that a certain individual in Clare may have an idea of the location where unknown Felix Doran recordings my reside. ![]()
There are further recordings and photos of Felix Doran
Ya got me!

Felix was great, will he be in the Master Pipers series someday? That RTE stuff would make a very nice record. Who’s next up for a CD there? I thought it was strange for NPU to put out those set dancing tapes, nice as they are, when there’s so much nice archival piping recordings they could flog instead. What’s a piper’s club doing selling recordings of a piano accordionist? Admittedly though it was a PAccorder who also is a piper…
Any word about CD(s) to go with the Mitchell/JOBM Ennis book? Multimedia, you know.
I didn’t send you the big session of Felix, Michael Gorman and Maggie Barry?
And there are the tracks (some of which appeared on lp, albeit an obscure one) of Felix and Bobby Casey playing tunes in the Jacks of an English Folkclub.
Doran/Gorman/Barry?

The track of Felix and Bobby got here though, also the Doran/Kelly record where they put the mic in a roaring fire…or maybe it’s scratched, yeah that’s it!
Also there’s a nice bit of film of Felix at a Feis, maybe that’ll show up on You Tube someday.
Now, I’d enjoy hearing a bit of Bobby Casey. ![]()
There’s very nice footage of Felix & Michael Doran piping on the O’Hara & Bryne Traveller musician series on TG4
