I was organizing files and came upon pictures of my dad in the 20s. As soon as I can get to it, I want ot scan some. It would make a great avatar. I knew he worked the fisheries in Alaska in the 30s, I’ve found a photo with “Here we are, on this steamer”. And some with women, other than my mom
what a great find
Any else have any family finds like this??
I am working (or more often not working) on organizing all the family photos, including some really old ones of my mom and family.
More interesting were the stories I got from my mom when going through them with her to identify people - like her uncle that got killed by the Chicago Mafia. She was a pretty little girl (1930’s) and her family told her he was killed in a car accident - but when they thought she was asleep she heard some things and apparently the car crash was no accident.
These are two pictures I love - the little girl is my mom in 1938, and the boy is her cousin Duke in 1941. True depictions of childhood innocence.

When we moved here to the house that the grandparents of my dh built, I found a whole box of very old photographs in an old desk. One was a tin type album. Unfortunately no one living knows who the people are in many of them.
I am lucky in that my mom has collected photos, or copies of most of her family going back to tin types. She has spent many hours labeling them so we will always know who they are.
My father had such crisp “hand” . I remember when Alzhiemer’s had taken hold and his writing looked like my hand writing.
Hopefully I can scan a couple and post them
The tallest boy fading out there on the left is my grandfather, Joe Gillespie, circa 1915. To his right, in descending height, are his brothers John, Jeff, Robert, and Albert. The caboose kid, and only girl (and only one still living,) is Grace, who was not yet born.
Looks like by the time you hit about 5 years old, you graduated from baby to boy haircut.
This is in the Blue Ridge Mountains…Tazewell, Virginia.

There’s a photo of my great uncle when he was my age that gives me the chills because it’s like looking in a mirror. If I ever get it scanned I’ll put it as my avatar. I wonder if anyone else has had such striking similarities with someone as distantly related.
My youngest daughter doesn’t look like anyone else in the family.
When I found the box of old photos I mentioned earlier there was one that looked like my daughter. But, we have no idea who the girl is, other than she’s one of my hb’s relatives.
