has anybody of you any experiences with Alba’s high D-Whistles, tunable (standard design) or non-tunable (Q1 design)?
At the present I play my beloved Dixon solid brass, which is a truly excellent whistle for me.
Some time in the future though I would like to look out for a somewhat more ‘powerful’ high D whistle (with a wider bore etc.).
I very much like my Alba A whistle. So I do consider an Alba high D …
I have a hi D Q1 and love it. It has a beautiful sound and is easy to play. However, if you are looking for something louder this is not it. I have not played the standard design hi D so I can not say anything about it. But you are right about the A Alba. It is a super whistle.
I’ve got a Mellow Dog! And yes, it goes towards what I’m looking for.
(It is a really really good whistle, and I like it very much. Will play and explore it more now .)
I guess, my liking for more solid and heavier whistles (wall thickness 1,5 -2 mm in my Alba A and Dixon solid brass high D) carries me away sometimes …
I suggest that you search through old messages for Reyburn whistles and see if you have a match. Very substantial brass tube and a very full sound. You do have a bit of volume control as well.
Warning, these are a bit expensive. (But I am most happy to own one.)
Thank you both, WhistlingWillie and Swizzlestick .
I’ve never held a Goldie or a Reyburn whistle in my hand, and so didn’t consider them - so far.
But you are right, they both sound and play great, from what I hear here. And they seem to have the ‘right weight’ for me
