experience with Alba Low whistles

Just wanted to get some feedback on what you think of Alba low whistles, I have thought about getting a low D and low E.

I love my Kerry Low D, it has great back pressure and puts out quite the sound, although I have noticed of late it doesn’t have quite the sound I want, I think someone described it as a mystical drainpipe of some sort. Anyone, opinions are welcomed.

Well  I think they are great! but then I would
You can get a low D with a E barrel.
A strange thing has happend.
Dear Stacey,

For this discussion I will refer to the notes

on my whistle as low C/high C/and highest C.

In January '03 I purchased a Low C Alba whistle.

It has a small problem with the high C note. When I play the

high C I hear a steady soft echo of the low C note. This is the

only note which causes this echo of a lower note.

I play a number of whistles, Copeland Low D,Sindt,Shaw.

This is the only whistle with this problem. I have given myself

time to get familiar with the instrument, but I have come to

believe that the fault is not in my playing but in the whistle.

Do you have any suggestions?

Best Regards,

Jack

The thing is I have no idear whats causing this, anyone got any suggestions
and please not like there’s little folk is side playing another low C

I can only say about my Alba Low Bb.

I also have a Kerry Pro in D.

The Alba has lower pressure needs than the Kerry Pro,
but that doesn’t stop the control over octave change.
The Alba will change octave when you want it to,up or down.

The sound is rich/wide etc.
The whistle plays from cold without flubbing due to moisture.
When I open the package, I played January Snow - to get used to the finger position - which is a bit more of a stretch than the Kerry Pro - and went straight into Lord Mayo (you can see I’m a Lunasa fan!).
The Alba had no problems at all flipping up and down the octaves, nor did it ‘drop out’ from upper to lower octave.

I’ve just ordered a Sop’ Bb, and when I’ve sold my Overton Low D,
I’m going to buy a Alba Low D to replace it.

(I’m never going to sell the Kerry Pro - ever!)

ps Alba value for money/quality etc 10/10
